shop#160 TSUMAMI-DO

Tsumami-Zaiku is a Japanese craft which has a 300 years' history, using a small square texture colorfully dyed in a traditional way. Here at Tsumami-Do, you can experience Tsumami-Zaiku. Folding a texture like Origami, you can make a flower-shaped accessory in 30 to 40 minutes. Once you know how to make it, you can buy materials here, as it is the only material store of Tsumami-Zaiku. A Kanzashi (hair ornament) made by this method is very beautiful.

The owner, Takahashi-san, said they welcome foreign people. However, the class is in Japanese only, so please take someone who is Japanese or who speaks some Japanese. Please contact them in advance if you are more than 3 people.

Located between Asakusabashi Station and Kuramae Station.

shop#125 kinari

This is a shop selling Tombo-Dama made of glass. Tombo means dragonfly and Dama (Tama) means a ball, in this case, bead. It is derived from a eye of dragonfly which is similar to the blue Tombo-Dama with white flower design.

This is my bracelet, which I made using Tombo-Dama. At this shop, there are various kinds not only standard round or oval ones but also animal-shaped ones i.e., panda or frog.

shop#121 Hasegawa Shoten

Hasegawa Shoten is now selling Hanabi: skyrocket or sparklers. They sell dolls in spring, Hanabi in summer and Christmas decorations in fall and winter.

In summer, there are many fireworks festivals all over Japan, but it is fun to have a Hanabi party at your own place. In Asakusabashi and Kuramae, there are many wholesalers selling Hanabi and at some stores, you can buy these at a reasonable price.

Please be careful where you can play with these Hanabi and make sure you prepare a bucket of water.

shop#69 Naruto Taiyaki Honpo

Taiyaki is a fish-shaped pancake filled with bean jam. This Taiyaki shop opened some months ago and many people stand in line to buy Taiyaki, anytime when I pass by. Eat right after you get it. The shell is crispy and tastes good. Located in Asakusabashi.
