shop#199 Asahiya

Asahiya is located on the Kappabashi-hon-dori, selling various envelops or Origami.

In Japan, it is a custom for adults (parents or grandparents) to give children a money on a New Year's Day as Otoshidama, These small envelops, called Pochibukuro, are for such custom. 2016 will be a year of monkeys. That's why monkeys are illustrated on the paper.

They also sell cards and Origami. These Origami are easy to fold paper cranes, just following instruction lines. You can make flag-patterned or Hanafuda-patterned cranes.

Kappabashi Dougu Matsuri (Kappabashi Tool Festival) 2015

Kappabashi Dougu Matsuri will be held from October 6 thru 12 this year.

The price of kitchen tools, cutlery and dishes will be much more reasonable than usual. On October 11, the chopstick user contest will be held. On October 12, first 1000 people can eat SANMA (saury) at the Kinryu Park. The ticket will be provided in front of Shogai Gakushu Center (Lifelong Study Center) on Kappabashi Tool Street from 10:45 am on October 12.

Kappabashi Tool Street is located 10 mins walk from Asakusa.

Shitamachi Tanabata Matsuri

Shitamachi Tanabata Matsuri has being held in Kappabashi-Hon-Dori, a street from Asakusa to Ueno. The dance event was held on last weekend, but you still enjoy the Tanabata ornaments until tomorrow.

 

Today is Tanabata when Orihime meets Hikoboshi in the sky once in a year. Unfortunately, it will rain in the evening, so it may be difficult to see the stars.

shop#179 Dr. Goods

Dr. Goods is a kitchen tool shop located on Kappabashi Tool Street. I found colorful baskets, which can be washed in a dishwasher.

shop#177 Niimi

Niimi is one of the most famous shops in Kappabashi Tool Street. The shop is in a corner of the Asakusa Street and Kappabashi Tool Street and you can easily find a head of a cook on the building.

They sell various kinds of tableware and kitchen tools. I found cute animal plates and Sakura motif dishes.

shop#151 Toushougama Honten

This is Toushougama-Honten, located at Kappabashi Dougu Gai (Kappabashi Tool Street), selling simple and modern Japanese tableware. There is another shop nearby, where you can order your own with color, names and logos.

shop#149 Utsuwa Zoshi

Look at these cute, animal-shaped spoons! They are adorable. You can get these at Utsuwa Zoshi in Kappabashi Tool Street.

This shop is also selling dishes and bags.

 These bags are made in Kurashiki, Okayama prefecture, where is famous for indigo dye. You can get these at reasonable prices.

shop#141 Kondo

Here is the only specialty store of bamboo products, using Japanese bamboo trees, in Kappabashi Tool Street. Kondo sells the tableware and kitchenware made of bamboo for everyday use.

shop#140 Propack

Propack sells various packages, foodstuffs, big bottles of sauces, stationary or interior decorations at inexpensive prices. In September, the main decorations are Halloweens. Customers are not only shops and restaurants but also individual consumers.

Shikki means lacquer ware. Nishiyama Shikki, which has a history of almost 100 years, sells lacquered bowls or trays. When you drink Miso soup, it is better to use a lacquered bowl. The shop is located in Kappabashi Tool Street.

You will find goods of interior decorations i.e., a jukebox and English signs as if you are in the film of American Graffiti. Located in Kappabashi Tool Street.

street#1 Kappabashi Dougu Gai (Kappabashi Tool Street)

Kappabashi Tool Street is about 800 meter long and has more than 150 stores of tools and furniture relating to kitchen or restaurant. At the entrance of this street (at the corner of Asakusa Boulevard and Kappabashi Tool Street), a chef wearing a cook hat welcomes you.

These are Shokuhin Sample (fake foods) made of wax to display at restaurants.

This shop newly opened this spring is located at Kappabashi Tool Street. You will find interior decoration in Japanese style. I like the little cute goldfishes made of glass.

shop#99 Hirayama Paper

Hirayama Paper is a specialty store for Japanese paper products from beautiful Washi (Japanese paper) envelopes to wonderfully soft toilet papers with a scent of rose.

Located near Kappabashi on the Asakusa boulevard.

shop#68 Yabukita

To make Soba which is a noodle made from buckwheat flour, you have to get special tools. This is a speciality store for Soba makers.

If you like wooden goods, here is the best place to find various wooden plates and bowls.

Here is a specialty store collecting antiques and some Japanese designers' tableware, stationery and furniture. The shop is located on the second floor of Kappabashi Coffee.
